This shot particularly served well in drawing me into the movie, creating a level of engagement and audience participation akin to voyeurism. The skill and execution of the shot engendered a negative response which had me hooked. I had to keep watching to find out what happened next.
The characters speak directly to the camera, almost initmately, as if they are having a conversation with only one person, me! This mid shot was so impactful that my group tried to replicate this as part of our opening video scene in Viral Terror.
The shot above is from the first filming and shot from a high angle to give the appearance of CCTV footage. The aim was to impress upon the audience that they were watching someone who was unaware that they were watched. Although the original intention was to emulate the scene from Unfrended, it was decided to shoot from multiple angles using different shots to deliver a less personal engagement.

ReplyDeleteLevel of care in presentation: Basic due to the amount of text only posts. You should be aiming to think of different and more interesting ways to present your work. There are also a number of spelling errors throughout your blog.
Basic research into similar products and a potential target audience: Codes and conventions into film openings – text only. You need to back up your finding with clips or images. You should also have some sort of summary of findings – by looking at these various films, what did you find to be the main common conventions? Conventions of horror openings is also lacking an overall conclusion. This post would benefit from greater detail, cross-referencing and images (like my example on my blog). Target audience research is too basic – you need to justify your findings (again, see my example). Research into psychological horror is quite vague and doesn’t do enough to reference specific films (to show these are indeed conventions).
Basic organization of actors, locations, costumes, props: In terms of planning, you are missing some of the early planning posts such as the final concept of your idea based on audience feedback from your pitches etc… The level of detail around your locations is good and references existing films – to improve, you should be applying this level of detail to all other planning posts (e.g. justifying decisions by comparing to existing products).
Basic work on shotlists, drafting, scripting & storyboarding: storyboard seems incomplete. You would also benefit from including more drafts and comments on any changes you have made.
Overall – level 2.
You have a post for most of the ‘must’ tasks but the level of detail is quite basic and most posts are brief, text only responses. It is important that you use my blog examples as guidance for the level of detail and presentation required for this work. In order to achieve a higher mark, you may also want to include more ‘should’ and ‘could’ tasks.
